Airworthiness Requirements




Knowledge


The applicant demonstrates understanding of:

  • General airworthiness requirements and compliance for airplanes, including:

    1. Certificate location and expiration dates

    2. Required inspections and airplane logbook documentation

    3. Airworthiness Directives and Special Airworthiness Information Bulletins

    4. Purpose and procedure for obtaining a special flight permit

  • Pilot-performed preventive maintenance.

  • Equipment requirements for day and night VFR flight, to include:

    1. Flying with inoperative equipment

    2. Using an approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL)

    3. Kinds of Operation Equipment List (KOEL)

    4. Required discrepancy records or placards

Risk Management


The applicant demonstrates the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks, encompassing:

  • Inoperative equipment discovered prior to flight.
